Artist
Becky Hancock (b. 1998 Brighton) lives and works near Brighton.
Becky depicts the domestic space and the objects that surround our everyday. She is a drawer, painter, sculptor and thinker. Through visual imagery, objects converse together isolated in momentary observations of space. A recurring accumulation of fragmented thoughts and relations upon, specifically, the table and chair.
Becky is interested in the variety of connotations that arise playing with distance, perspective and distortion. A stillness that forces us to confront the absence. The isolated objects hold significant conflicts of emotion; desire and frustration, comfort or conflict. A discourse of anticipation and longing is created, revealing the domestic as a place of reflection. Therefore, the works pose questions rooted within understanding of home and belonging. The naive, representational symbolism draws a playfulness into the subtle revelations of how she places herself within the work and space.
